From October 2021, the flow of workers from HCMC and the Southeast provinces spontaneously returned to their homeland in the Mekong Delta provinces, causing the isolation areas to be overloaded. The number of Covid19 positive cases increased give presure to the shrimp processing and exporters. However, after the efforts of both local authorities and businesses, the Covid-19 epidemic situation in Soc Trang and the Mekong Delta provinces has been partially controlled.

The easing of the social distancing since mid-September has helped businesses gradually restore production after the epidemic, but businesses still have to “fear” many worries about labor sources, supply chain costs, and ensure epidemic prevention to maintain production capacity. Shrimp processing and exporters need to make great efforts to meet pending orders from customers at the year-end holiday season.

Vannamei and Black Tiger price continue to slightly increase compare to last week, as it is already been forecasted. Main size of Vannamei is 40-60 count, while Black Tiger is 20-30 count. Restrictions on transportation in the past time due to Directive 16 caused shrimp farmers find it difficult to access resources for shrimp farming in the new stocking. It is a warning of a shortage of raw materials for shrimp processors and exporters in the rest of the year, leading to shrimp prices will increase significantly.

Countries that are strong countries exporting shrimp such as Thailand, and Indonesia has all been negatively affected by covid-19. This causes a shortage of high product segments, will lead to delivery pressure in the last months of this year and a sharp increase in the price of this commodity. The global shrimp supply will decrease due to the impact of covid-19, leading to an increase in prices in the near future, especially large size.
